Kamillosan ointment contains an chamomile extract in a base containing lanolin. It is not known how this medicine works but chamomile extract has been used for many years as a herbal treatment.
Kamillosan also contains a mixture of beeswax, Emulsifying wax, lanolin and yellow soft paraffin that produces a greasy moisturiser. It works by providing a layer of oil on the surface of the skin to prevent water evaporating from the skin surface.
Chamomile is believed to have soothing properties. This ointment is particularly useful for treating sore nipples, nappy rash and chapped hands.
