Calpol soothe and care saline nasal spray (Saline solution)

How does it work?

Calpol soothe and care saline nasal spray contains isotonic saline solution (salt water), which is saline solution at the same concentration as that found in the body.

The spray can be used to help relieve blocked noses in babies and young children. The saline works by softening and loosening hardened nasal mucus, helping it to clear from the nasal passages.

The spray helps the child breath more easily and makes it easier for them to feed and sleep.

As well as helping clear mucus from the nose, the nasal spray can be useful for washing away irritants such as dust, and allergens that cause hayfever, from the nasal lining.

It can also be used for cleansing dried blood and mucus from the nose after nasal surgery.

What is it used for?

• Relieving blocked, dry or irritated nasal passages due to colds and flu, sinusitis, allergies such as hayfever, or following nasal surgery.

How do I use it?

• Calpol soothe and care saline nasal spray is used by inserting the nozzle of the spray into the nostril and pressing the head of the spray.
• For babies and infants under two years old, the child should be laid down and their head turned to one side before using the spray. One spray should be used in each nostril when required.
• It can be helpful to use the spray to clear a blocked nose before giving a feed.
• For children over two years old the spray should be help vertically and sprayed deep into the nostril. One or two sprays can be used in each nostril when required.
• After use, wipe the nozzle with a clean tissue and put the protective cap back on.

Warning!

• This product is only intended for use in the nose and must not be given by mouth.
• If your child has a nose injury or has recently had nasal surgery you should ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
• Each bottle of spray should only be used for one person, in order to avoid spreading infection.
• The spray should be disposed of six weeks after first opening, as it may be contaminated with germs. You may find it helpful to write the date of opening on the bottle.

Not to be used in

This medicine should not be used if your child is allergic to any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if your child has previously experienced such an allergy.

If you feel your child has experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

How can this medicine affect other medicines?

This spray is not expected to affect any other medicines. However, if your child is already taking any other medicines, including herbal medicines and those bought without a prescription, you should always check with your pharmacist before using any new medicines, to make sure that the combination is safe.

If you are using another nasal drop or spray at the same time then you should use this nasal spray first. This is because the saline will cleanse the nasal passage and therefore allow the other nasal product to be more effective. It will also avoid washing out the other medicine with the saline.
